Fill the Rink in Support of Stevenson Memorial Hospital

Members of the Nottawasaga OPP Detachment and students from Banting Memorial High School participated in an annual charity hockey tournament in support of the Stevenson Memorial Hospital this year.

The face off took place at noon on Wednesday March 11, 2020, at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre located at 7300 Industrial Parkway in Alliston, New Tecumseth. Students had to pay $5 to “buy out” from classes in order to attend the game.

The Nottawasaga OPP “Civics” and the Banting Memorial High School “Marauders” enjoyed an action-packed, fun-filled game, with a spontaneous “dance off” during one of the intermissions, which had the entire crowd cheering! The arena was packed with students, teachers, police officers, hospital staff, and community members alike to support our local community partner, Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s “Because of You, We Can” campaign, which launched in October 2019 as a redevelopment project for the hospital. All proceeds from the game, including food sales and a puck drop, went directly to Stevenson Memorial Hospital.

This is the fourth annual charity hockey game. Each year the proceeds go to a charity selected by the students. The Nottawasaga Detachment’s previous Detachment Commander, Superintendent Clegg, returned and laced-up for this great cause!

It truly is community events such as this, that bring the entire community together, and help foster positive relationships between police and youth. We truly welcome and embrace these special community events and want to thank all of our generous supporters for making this year’s game such a success.

P.S…..for those curious who took home bragging rights…….it was neck and neck most of the game with the Civics pulling through and defeating the Marauders 7-6.
