Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment participated in the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) event, which took place on Saturday, February 22, 2020, in Alliston. Team “NottyOPP” walked the five kilometer route, which kicked off at Banting Memorial High School.
By walking at dusk during a cold winter’s night, participants felt a hint of the challenge faced by those experiencing homelessness during winter. By fundraising, Team “NottyOPP” contributed to Alliston Out of the Cold, a local charity bringing hope and help to people in the community who need support.
This is the first year that the CNOY was held in Alliston. Thousands of Canadians across the country walked in support of CNOY to help hungry, homeless, and hurting people and families in their communities. Team “NottyOPP” successfully fund-raised over $610, which will directly fund critical services to support vulnerable families and individuals facing homelessness.
Those who participated as Team “NottyOPP” stepped up on their own initiative to collect donations to contribute to the CNOY and proudly represented the Detachment for this important community event.
Team “NottyOPP” looks forward to participating in next year’s CNOY, which will be taking place on Feb 20, 2021.
