Shop with a Cop 2019 – Provides Local Students with Christmas Experience

On Saturday, December 7, 2019, members from the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), met with 21 local elementary school students at the Alliston Walmart to participate in the 3rd annual “Shop with a Cop” event!

The “Shop with a Cop” program is designed to provide gifts and a positive experience to elementary aged children and their families. Each elementary school in the Nottawasaga area was asked to select one student who was deserving of such an event.

Each student was given the opportunity to spend time with a uniformed OPP officer, while shopping for gifts for their families and themselves.  Each student was provided with a $100.00 gift card graciously donated by local businesses and the general public.

Following the shopping, students, officers and volunteers returned back to the Nottawasaga OPP Detachment where they wrapped gifts, took a tour of the police station and enjoyed a pizza lunch with Santa Claus.

Members from the Nottawasaga OPP would like to give a special thanks to the following businesses who helped make this event such a great success: Murphy’s Farm Market and Bakery, Bri-Way Carriers, Dominoes Alliston, Holmes Agro, Walmart Alliston, McDonald’s, Mansfield Skiways, and Banting Memorial High School Students. A special thank you to an anonymous community donor who graciously donated $50 gift cards for each family to purchase a holiday meal.

We look forward to next year’s “Shop with a Cop” event!
