D.A.R.E. School

D.A.R.E. is a program delivered to Grade 6 students, facilitated by a police officer. The program is designed to assist students in making safe and responsible choices for a healthy lifestyle.

The D.A.R.E. lessons will provide the students with information on health effects and facts related to drugs, risks and consequences, peer pressure, stress, communication, bullying. The program is a fun, interactive, positive learning environment where the students become engaged in the learning process and practice problem solving to support good decision making in their day to day life.

Why is Nottawasaga OPP running a D.A.R.E. School Pilot?

Since 1998, Nottawasaga OPP has been delivering the D.A.R.E. program to Grade 6 students within the school environment.

In October of 2021, the Simcoe County District School Board removed the D.A.R.E. program from schools. Nottawasaga OPP believes the information Grade 6 students learn from the D.A.R.E. program is important, as it teaches students good decision-making skills to lead safe and healthy lives.

With support of the Nottawasaga Police Services Board, and in partnership with the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio, Nottawasaga OPP is pleased to launch the Nottawasaga OPP D.A.R.E. School.

When and Where will the Pilot be run?

The pilot program will be run by Nottawasaga OPP at the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio located at 7855 Sideroad 30, Alliston, Ontario, L9R 1V1.

The one hour classes will be provided on Thursday evenings starting March 24 through to May 26, 2022. The D.A.R.E. graduation will be held on June 2, 2022. Nottawasaga OPP is offering a virtual option as well for students who prefer not to attend the in person class.

The classes will offered at the following times:

  • 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
  • 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
  • 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm

What is the D.A.R.E. program?

Who is eligible to attend the Nottawasaga OPP D.A.R.E. School pilot?

Attending students must be in Grade 5 or 6 and reside either in the Town of New Tecumseth, Essa Township, or the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio.

Can parents/guardians observe the classes?

Yes! Nottawasaga OPP encourages parents/guardians to attend and observe the classes with their children.

What is the cost for a student to attend the Nottawasaga OPP D.A.R.E. School Pilot?

There is no cost. Classes are free to all eligible students.

If the pilot is successful will Nottawasaga OPP continue this program?

Yes! Nottwasaga OPP intends to launch regularly scheduled D.A.R.E. School programs at physical locations in the Town of New Tecumseth, Essa Township, and the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio.

How do students register?

The classes will be restricted to a maximum of 26 students and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Requests to register for the pilot can be submitted to Nottawasaga OPP by one of the following means:

  1. Send an email to opp.nottawasaga.DARE.school@opp.ca including which class timeslot is preferred, the student(s) name, parents/guardians name, and emergency contact information.
